About Mitsubishi Electric Refrigerators

The people behind the Mitsubishi Electric name
Mitsubishi was founded in 1870 by the young Yataro Iwasaki as a shipping firm. He started this firm as his very own after working for years for the Tosa clan and managing their Osaka shipping operations. The name Mitsubishi is a combination of “mitsu” (three) and “hishi” (water chestnut), hence why their emblem is three leaves or three diamonds.
In 1893, Yataro’s son, Hisaya, became president of the company after his father’s death in 1885. He was a graduate from the University of Pennsylvania and keen to diversify. Soon the company was successfully branching out into many different areas. As a result, Mitsubishi Electric was founded in 1921.
When did Mitsubishi Electric start producing refrigerators?
Mitsubishi Electric moved into the home appliances space from 1916 onwards. However, they didn’t begin producing refrigerators until 1954. They then brought their refrigerators to New Zealand in 2000.

2011: Connoisseur E-62 is released, with innovative features such as rotating and elevating shelves, a non-plumbed icemaker, and a humidity drawer designed to keep fruit and vegetables fresh. (In 2012, these were re-released in many different colours to suit the theme of any kitchen.)
2006: A year of innovation – Mitsubishi Electric releases three new fridges: the G50, the first fridge with six unique temperature zones to keep different types of foods fresh; an upright frost-free freezer; and a bottom mounted fridge freezer.
2004: Mitsubishi Electric introduces the first multi-drawer refrigerators in New Zealand.
2001: Mitsubishi Electric wins their first large commercial air-conditioning project, the Mt Cook Hermitage hotel.
