One in four kiwis concerned over water usage

Most Satisfied Customers: Dishwashers (2013)Is your dishwasher energy and water efficient? It’s a question many have asked themselves, with more than a quarter of New Zealanders who responded to our recent survey admitting they’re concerned about how much water their dishwasher uses.

Many respondents have reported using their appliance in ways that can reduce running costs; four in five only run their dishwasher when it is full, and a third opt to use the shortest possible washing cycle every time. We found respondents from Auckland are especially likely to use this approach, with 44% using short cycles – 10% more than the national average.

While nearly two thirds of respondents regularly clean their dishwashers, one in five didn’t know this was a requirement for longer term hygiene and maintenance. Additionally, only 59% of those surveyed always use rinse aid in their machine.

In other results, one in five respondents has argued with a partner over household chores. This was particularly apparent for Gen Y’s (40%), while it appears Baby Boomers co-exist more peacefully, with only 13% arguing about the housework.

Bosch rinse and repeat customer satisfaction award for dishwashers

This survey also measured and compared the satisfaction levels of customers with their choice of dishwasher, with Bosch emerging as the leader out of the six appliance brands rated.

Not only did Bosch achieve our Most Satisfied Customers Award – Dishwashers for 2013, they also achieved five star ratings in all our survey criteria. This is the second year in a row Bosch has received our dishwasher award, having also been successful in our 2012 ratings. They also won Canstar Blue washing machine and clothes dryer awards earlier this year.

All rated brands (LG, Fisher & Paykel, Westinghouse, Simpson and Haier) received five star ratings in different criteria in this category. A detailed breakdown of these results can be found below.

Canstar Blue commissioned Research Now to survey 2,500 New Zealand consumers to measure and track customer satisfaction. The outcomes reported are the results from customers within the survey group who have purchased and used a dishwasher in the last three years – in this case, 721 people. Brands must receive at least 30 responses to be included.

Results are comparative and it should be noted that brands that received three stars have still achieved a satisfaction measure of at least six out of 10.

Haier received three stars for its dishwasher layout.
