Countdown is top of the range for customer satisfaction

2011 Award for Supermarket RangeFor some shoppers, having a range of brands and products to choose from is the most important feature of the supermarket they choose.

Our survey of supermarket shoppers found that Countdown has the most satisfied customers when it comes to range, with customers appreciating the breadth of products and brands available.

Supermarket heavyweights New World and PAK’n SAVE were also rated, with New World receiving four stars for their range, while PAK’n SAVE received three.

The survey also determined most satisfied customer awards for price and service.

Our results showed that nearly one third of respondents were loyal to one supermarket brand. Christchurch residents were particularly ‘devout’ with 35% saying they would not stray from their brand, while Wellingtonians were less so at 25%.

It also appears that shoppers are still more inclined to shop in person, with just two percent of New Zealanders surveyed choosing to buy their groceries via the internet. The same percentage of shoppers also chose not to have their groceries delivered to their homes to save time.

Canstar Blue commissions Colmar Brunton Australia to survey 2,500 New Zealand consumers across a range of categories every few months to measure and track customer satisfaction. The outcomes reported are the results from customers of supermarkets within the survey group – in this case, 1163 people. To qualify, the customer must have made a purchase from a supermarket in the last six months. Brands must receive at least 30 responses to be included.

Results are comparative and it should be noted that brands that received three stars have still achieved a satisfaction measure of at least six out of 10.
