Breville earns our 2014 microwave oven award

2014 Award for Microwaves 2014Close to three quarters of New Zealanders use their microwave oven once a day, according to our latest results. Additionally, nearly two thirds of respondents believe they can’t live without their microwave at all.

That’s a significant percentage of the Kiwi population who rely on these appliances, but most of them predominantly do so to simply reheat their food – not cook it (72%).

Additionally, a little more than two in five eat a microwave cooked meal at least once a week, with men substantially more likely to do so than women (50% versus 36%).

Given the number of New Zealanders utilising their microwaves on a daily basis, it’s high time for us to ask them which brand is best in the kitchen. Our ratings have assessed how satisfied New Zealand customers are with their microwave ovens, and one brand spun ahead of the rest.

Breville has achieved our Most Satisfied Customers – Microwaves, 2014 ahead of Panasonic, Samsung, Sharp, and LG. Let’s take a closer look at which brands were hot properties:

  • Breville secured the all-important top rating for overall customer satisfaction, as well as five stars for appearance and design.
  • LG was another standout brand, who received five stars for heating power and functionality.
  • Panasonic received top scores for its microwave heating power, appearance and design, and warranty.
  • Sharp achieved five stars for microwave oven value for money, appearance and design, and ease of use.
  • Samsung earned five stars for the warranties of its microwave ovens.

Canstar Blue commissions Colmar Brunton using the SSI panel to regularly survey 2,500 New Zealand consumers across a range of categories to measure and track customer satisfaction. The outcomes reported are the results from customers within the survey group who have purchased and used a new microwave in the last two years – in this case, 1,033 people.

Brands must have received at least 30 responses to be included. Results are comparative and it should be noted that brands receiving three stars have still achieved a satisfaction measure of at least six out of 10.
