Resene: New Zealand’s Favourite House Paint

Resene is a hit inside and out of Kiwi homes, taking out Canstar Blue’s Most Satisfied Customers award for house paint.

One of the cheapest and easiest ways to update your home is with a fresh coat of house paint. Nothing revamps a living space like switching from Antique White to Whisper White. Or maybe Astor White would work better?

But beyond a large colour palette to choose from, you want a paint that provides quality to do the job. Inside or out. Because New Zealand’s just as famous for harsh UV rays as it is for The Lord of the Rings, any regular old house paint just isn’t enough.

So to help Kiwis narrow down their choices, we asked Kiwis to evaluate their past buying experiences, to find out which house paint is No.1.

Resene: New Zealand’s favourite house paint

For our 2022 awards, we surveyed 868 Kiwis who had purchased and used house paint or stain in the past three years. We asked them to evaluate their experiences across the following categories:

  • Overall Satisfaction
  • Durability
  • Quality of Finish
  • Value for Money
  • Ease of Application
  • Range of Finishes

And, according to Kiwis, Resene is the way to go, and the winner of Canstar Blue’s Most Satisfied Customers | House Paint Award 2022.

Resene took out last year’s award in similar fashion, with overwhelmingly positive feedback. In this year’s survey, Resene earns 5 Stars in almost every category measured, for Overall Satisfaction, Durability, Quality of Finish, Ease of Application, and Range of Finishes.

It earns just a single 4-Star result, for Value for Money. While 4 Stars is quality score, it’s perhaps also a reflection of the fact exceptional quality doesn’t always come cheap.

New Zealand’s favourite house paints

Here are New Zealand’s favourite house paints, based on our survey results:

  1. Resene
  2. Valspar
  3. Wattyl
  4. Dulux
  5. British Paints

Despite Resene taking top spot, it’s not the only house paint brand to earn the admiration of its customers.  The only brand apart from our winner Resene to earn top ratings, Valspar earns 5-Stars for Range of Finishes and Value for Money, and 4 Stars across all other categories.

Like Valspar, Wattyl and Dulux also earn 4-Star Overall Satisfaction ratings. While British Paints earns 3 Stars for Overall Satisfaction.
