Kiwis save money (and the planet) with every wash

2012 Award for Washing Machines 2012Nearly half of New Zealand respondents to our recent survey cited energy efficiency as the most important factor in choosing a new washing machine.

When compared to their southern neighbours, Aucklanders were more inclined to choose an energy efficient washing machine than Dunedin residents (54% compared to 43%).

Similarly, 72% of respondents said they always used the cold water laundry cycle to save money. Many Generation Y respondents agreed with this sentiment, as 82% solely relied on cold water washes for all of their laundry needs.

The survey also looked at customer satisfaction levels in washing machine brands. Bosch received our most satisfied customers award for washing machines ahead of Fisher & Paykel, Simpson, LG and Samsung.

Bosch scored more five star ratings than any other rated brand – topping the charts for overall satisfaction, performance, noise, design and water efficiency.

In other results:

  • LG, Simpson and Samsung took out five stars for value for money
  • LG and Fisher & Paykel both received five stars for their machine’s ease of use
  • Simpson, Samsung and Fisher & Paykel each received five stars for their warranties

Canstar Blue commissions Colmar Brunton Australia to survey 2,500 New Zealand consumers across a range of categories every few months to measure and track customer satisfaction. The outcomes reported are the results from washing machine customers within the survey group – in this case,
762 people. To qualify, the customer must have purchased a washing machine in the last three years. Brands must receive at least 30 responses to be included.

Results are comparative and it should be noted that brands that received three stars have still achieved a satisfaction measure of at least six out of 10.

Overall satisfaction

Bosch received five stars for overall customer satisfaction ahead of Simpson, LG and Samsung with four stars; and Fisher & Paykel with three.

Value for money

Customers won’t be short on washing machines offering good value for money, with LG, Simpson and Samsung each receiving five stars for this criteria. They were followed by Fisher & Paykel with four stars, and then Bosch with three.

Performance

Bosch customers were most satisfied with their product’s performance in washing clothes, earning the brand another five stars. Simpson received four stars for performance; followed by LG, Samsung and Fisher & Paykel with three each.

Ease of use

When many Kiwis are doing in excess of five washes per week, customers should have a washing machine that is dead simple to use. LG and Fisher & Paykel both exceled in this regard; receiving five stars each for ease of use. Samsung came next with four stars, followed by Simpson and Bosch with three.

Noise

Bosch received another five stars, this time for customer satisfaction for noise. LG, Samsung and Fisher & Paykel received four stars for their washing machines noise, and Simpson received three.

Design

For their design, Bosch received another five star rating – followed by LG and Samsung with four stars each. Simpson and Fisher & Paykel both received three stars for this criteria.

Warranty

Simpson, Samsung and Fisher & Paykel all received five stars each for their respective warranties. Bosch received four stars for this criteria, and LG followed with three.

Water efficiency

Bosch received five more stars for their products water efficiency. Simpson, Samsung and Fisher & Paykel all received four stars, while LG received three.
