We’re creatures of habit, even when it comes to our washing. This might just be the reason that 37% of Kiwis say they stick to buying the same brand of laundry powder, according to Canstar Blue’s national survey. But to help you find the best laundry detergent for your needs, we asked a substantial 1616 Kiwis to rate the laundry powder they purchased and used in the last three months. They reported back to us on a number of factors, such as value for money, scent and environmental friendliness.
ecostore came out on top as the winner for Canstar Blue’s 2019 Most Satisfied Customers Award, gaining 5-stars for feel of clothes, packaging, environment friendliness and overall satisfaction!
There’s nothing worse than getting a huge stain on your favourite top, sticking it the wash and finding it’s still there, stuck fast and drawing obvious attention. It’s annoying and feels like a waste of time and money when your clothes come out of the wash still looking dirty. That’s why quality of clean is an important factor, when it comes to laundry powder.
Shotz and Persil earned a maximum 5-stars for this category. 4-stars went to award winner – ecostore, as well as Fab and Surf. All other brands received 3-stars.
As well as looking clean, we want our clothes to feel good when they come out of the washer. We didn’t ask people to qualify what ‘feel good’ meant to them but we’ll take a guess and say probably not prickly, nor like cardboard or your Granny’s starched sheets!
ecostore scored 5-stars, along with Persil. Shotz, Fab and Surf registered a respectable 4-stars and all remaining brands received 3-stars.
If you’ve ever had to try and clear up a laundry powder spill (not one of life’s great pleasures!), you will know the value of a well-packaged product, that is robust and easy to store. In addition, more people are focusing on the environmental impact, now more than ever. Consumers are getting more clued up on minimising waste, recycling and using recycled materials whenever possible. This is also front of mind for our customer satisfaction award winner – ecostore – who was the only brand to score 5-stars in the category. Shotz, Persil, Fab, Surf, Reflect and Earthwise scored 4-stars, with Coldpower registering 3-stars.
Value for money can be pretty subjective, when it comes to questioning what you think it represents. But, in general when it comes to the essentials, like washing powder, we like to think we’re getting bang for our buck. For the budget conscious, Shotz, came top of the pile, scoring a maximum 5-stars. ecostore, Fab, Surf and Reflect scored 4-stars, and Persil, Coldpower and Earthwise each scored 3-stars.
For many of us, one of our favourites is the aroma of freshly laundered washing, so the fragrance of our detergent is pretty significant. And, our survey results show Kiwis are pretty specific when it comes to scent. Only one 5-stars and two 4-stars were given out in this year’s ratings. It was Fab that came in with the 5-stars, while ecostore and Surf brought home the 4-stars.
Laundry detergent is something we all need, but as our understanding of the impact we have on the world, increases, over one quarter of us (26%) try to do our bit for the environment by opting for an eco-friendly product. In addition, 11% of Kiwis check the ingredients in their laundry detergent.
ecostore also came out on top for the environmental friendliness category, being the only providers to earn 5-stars. Shotz and Earthwise scored 4-stars, while the remaining brands all received 3-stars.
So, when it comes to keeping your whites white, your colours fast, and your environment friendly, we hope our insights gathered from your fellow consumers, help!
Canstar Blue surveyed 2635 New Zealand consumers across a range of categories to measure and track customer satisfaction, via ISO 26362 accredited research panels managed by Qualtrics. The outcomes reported are the results from customers who have purchased and used laundry powder in the last 3 months. In this case, 1616 New Zealanders.
Brands must have received at least 30 responses to be included. Results are comparative and it should be noted that brands receiving three stars have still achieved a satisfaction measure of at least six out of 10. Not all brands available in the market have been compared in this survey. The ratings table is first sorted by star ratings and then by mean overall satisfaction. A rated brand may receive a ‘N/A’ (Not Applicable) rating if it does not receive the minimum number of responses for that criteria.
