Few people would agree that moving home is a fun way to spend a day. Indeed, according to Canstar Blue’s latest research, most Kiwis find the whole experience very stressful.
For whether you own your home or rent, finding a new place to live given NZ’s constrained housing market is just the beginning of a long and trying process. Then there is the move itself: decluttering and packing up, then shifting all your possessions to your new property, where everything has to be unpacked and repositioned.
Of course, you can try to do it yourself, or just hire a couple of big blokes with a van, but if you’ve a lot of stuff to shift, the easiest solution is to hire the services of a professional removalist company.
But given that a quarter of the respondents in Canstar Blue’s inaugural award for Most Satisfied Customers | Removal Services claim they’ve had a bad experience with a removal firm, which firms can Kiwis rely on to move their possessions safely from A to B?
As part of our mission to inform consumers of the best NZ has to offer, Canstar Blue canvassed the opinions of 525 New Zealanders who had used a removalist in the past three years, across a range of categories, to measure and track their satisfaction.
To decide which removalist service offers the best level of customer satisfaction, each was rated across the following categories:
Coming out on top in our new award is New Zealand Movers. The nationwide removalist is the only firm to earn our top 5-Star rating for overall satisfaction. It’s a result that reflects New Zealand Movers’ high standards, and its impressive tally of 5- and 4-Star marks across all categories.
Also deserving of high praise is Conway Removals. The Australasian company offers local, national and international moving and has three 5-Star ratings in our award, including in the all-important areas of Customer Service and Value for Money.
When you’re organising the tricky logistics of a move, you need your removalist company to be there for you at every step. Of course, you need them to take care of your possessions. Plus, you want the service you’re paying for to be good value for money.

Canstar Blue surveyed 5133 New Zealand consumers across a range of categories to measure and track customer satisfaction, via ISO 26362 accredited research panels managed by Qualtrics. The outcomes reported are the results from customers who had used the services of a removalist over the past three years. In this case, 525 New Zealanders. Brands must have received at least 30 responses to be included. Results are comparative and it should be noted that brands receiving three stars have still achieved a satisfaction measure of at least six out of 10. Not all brands available in the market have been compared in this survey. The ratings table is first sorted by star ratings and then by mean overall satisfaction. A rated brand may receive a ‘N/A’ (Not Applicable) rating if it does not receive the minimum number of responses for that criteria.
