Orcon Mobile Review

If you’ve heard of Orcon Mobile and wondered how it stacks up against other brands, Canstar Blue has all you need to know about Orcon’s deals.

Orcon is a New Zealand telecommunications company, NZ’s fourth largest internet service provider. Orcon was the first retailer in the country to begin providing fibre as part of the Ultra-Fast Broadband (UFB) scheme back in 2011. If you’re currently with Orcon for broadband, you can bundle a mobile deal into your account. You’ll score a $5 discount on your monthly bill for each mobile plan added (at the time of writing, July 2021).

What phone plans does Orcon Mobile offer?

There are four Orcon Mobile plans to choose from, billed every 30 days:

2.5GB Plan

$25

  • 2.5GB NZ carry-over data
  • 300mins NZ/OZ talk
  • Unlimited NZ/OZ texts

6GB Plan

$43

  • 6GB NZ carry-over data
  • Unlimited NZ/OZ talk
  • Unlimited NZ/OZ texts

12GB Plan

$55

  • 12GB NZ carry-over data
  • Unlimited NZ/OZ talk
  • Unlimited NZ/OZ texts

Any unused data on your base mobile plan rolls over to the next month, for up to 12 months. Purchased add-on data will always be consumed first, followed by rollover data, and then the data in your current month’s base plan. You can purchase 1GB of additional data for $12 and 50 additional NZ and Australia calling minutes for $7 in My Orcon Mobile. Full international calling rates are displayed on their site, as they differ from country to country.

How does billing work?

Orcon mobile plans are billed every 30 days. Because your broadband bill is sent monthly, you may get the odd monthly bill that includes more than one mobile plan charge – although this will be rare. Regardless of how many mobile plan charges are included in your monthly Orcon bill, you will still receive a $5 discount on your broadband bill every month (or a proportion of that if you’re billed weekly or fortnightly) for every active mobile plan on your account.

How to switch to an Orcon plan

Orcon will post you a SIM card with all the details you need to transfer your number. It’s simple: just activate your SIM, register it in My Orcon Mobile, and complete the form to transfer your number.
